Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
“Tarkovsy is the greatest of them all. He moves with such naturalness in the room of dreams.” —director Ingmar Bergman
Andrei Tarkovsky’s final Soviet feature is a metaphysical journey through a strange post-apocalyptic landscape, and a rarified cinematic experience like no other.
A hired guide—the Stalker—leads a writer and a scientist into the heart of the Zone, the restricted site of a long-ago disaster where they quickly zero in on the Room, a place rumored to fulfill one’s most deeply held desires.
Long out of distribution in the U.S., the film was restored by Mosfilm from a 2K scan of the original negative. 1979, USSR, DCP, In Russian with English subtitles, 161 minutes.
