This new film from the lauded Danish director Thomas Vinterberg (The Celebration, The Hunt) examines the fallout from the social upheavals of the 1970s through the microcosm of a Copenhagen commune.

Erik and Anna are a young professional couple with a dream.  Along with their daughter Freja, they establish a commune in Erik’s huge villa in the upmarket district of Copenhagen.  With the family at the center of the story, we are invited into the utopian dream of actual commune life; we participate in the house meetings, dinner and parties that embrace freedom and camaraderie.  It is friendship, love and togetherness under one roof until an earth-shattering love affair puts the community and the commune to the test.

The Commune is a biting and careful study of how new values can come into conflict with old habits and beliefs.  2016, Denmark, DCP, in Danish with English subtitles, 111 minutes.

Graduation, originally scheduled for this evening, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 12 at 7 pm.
