Directed by Tim Sutton

“A haunting, thought-provoking piece of work, made infinitely more powerful by the things it chooses not to show.”—Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly

An artfully understated critique of American gun culture, based around the 2012 massacre in Aurora, Colorado that took place during a multiplex screening of The Dark Knight Rises, Tim Sutton's Dark Night is a jarring, gripping work of American independent cinema.

Shot in Sarasota, Florida and lensed by veteran French DP Helene Louvart (PinaThe Beaches of Agnes), the dream-like visuals of Dark Night articulate the area's beautifully-crafted landscapes while capturing the characters' sense of alienation and suburban malaise. With mesmerizing documentary-style direction and a cast of non-professional actors, the film follows the exploits of six strangers over the course of one day, all unaware of the shooter among them.

Winner of the Lanterna Magica Award at the Venice Film Festival following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. 2016, U.S., DCP, 85 minutes. Recommended for 16+.
