“Heartache never sounded so good.” —Chris Knight, The National Post

This tune-filled documentary takes the audience on a musical journey through the swamps of the Louisiana Bayou, the juke joints of the Mississippi Delta, and the moonshine-soaked BBQs in the North Mississippi Hill Country, visiting blues musicians rooted in the genre’s heyday, many now in their 80s, still living in the American deep South and touring the Chitlin’ Circuit.

In addition to Bobby Rush, who won a Grammy Award this year for Best Traditional Blues Album, the film features musicians Barbara Lynn, Little Freddie King, Lazy Lester, Henry Gray, Carol Fran, Bilbo Walker, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, RL Boyce, LC Ulmer, and Lil’ Buck Sinegal. A selection of the SXSW Film Festival. 2015, Canada/U.S., DCP, 116 minutes.

Screening in conjunction with the exhibition Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary Art.
