Directed by Jon Nguyen, Rick Barnes, and Olivia Neergaard-Holm

“Spellbinding, hallucinatory, exuberant.” —Jordan Hoffman, The Guardian

“Revels in the reassuring tactility of textures.” —Chuck Bowen, Slant

This fascinating documentary explores the multi-talented work of David Lynch through his art, music, and early films, exposing the recesses of his unique world full of contradictions. Lynch is most well-known for his cult film Eraserhead (shown at the Speed last fall) as well as the screen adaptation of The Elephant Man, the Cannes Palme d’Or winning Wild at Heart, and the beloved television series Twin Peaks.

We’re invited into David Lynch’s private compound and painting studio in the Hollywood Hills, as he reveals personal stories that unfold like scenes from his films. Strange characters come into focus, only to fade again into the past, all leaving an indelible mark. A selection of the Venice Film Festival. 2016, Denmark/U.S., DCP, 93 minutes. Recommended for 13+.

(Lynch’s Mulholland Drive will be screened at Speed Cinema on June 29.)
