“An exceptional film of tremendous empathy and vision.”—Nicholas Barber, BBC

The first Talk Cinema screening of the new year has just been shortlisted for the Best International Film Oscar. As Harlan Jacobson describes it, “What’s remarkable about the film, aside from everything, is the absolute purity of its visual storytelling.”

In the film, Leo and Remi are two thirteen-year-old best friends growing up in rural Belgium, whose seemingly unbreakable bond is suddenly, tragically torn apart. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Lukas Dhont's second film is an emotionally transformative and unforgettable portrait of the intersection of friendship and love, identity and independence, and heartbreak and healing. 2022, Belgium/Netherlands/France, DCP, in French, Flemish, and Dutch with English subtitles, 105 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Talk Cinema is programmed by the esteemed film critic and film curator Harlan Jacobson featuring a sneak preview screening of an art-house film prior to its release followed by a discussion. Be the first to see the latest films and to share your impressions.
