“One of the greatest bromances in cultural history has finally been brought to the screen.”—Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter

This lush new film revisits the friendship between painter Paul Cézanne (played by Guillaume Gallienne) and writer Emile Zola (Guillaume Canet) from the moment they leave Aix-en-Provence, right up until they arrive in Paris. There, fate, adventure, love, and fame will constantly both unite them and tear them apart.

Born into a wealthy family, success eluded Cézanne until late in life. Overshadowed by the accolades and great attention lauded upon Zola’s work, tensions often erupt, especially on the publication of L’Oeuvre. The novel’s main character, an ambitious, but failed painter, struck far too close to home for the artist. Zola’s perfect life along with his marriage to a woman that Cézanne once loved test the limits of one of the French cultures great friendships. 2016, France, DCP, in French with English subtitles, 116 minutes. Recommended for 16+.
