Speed Art Museum Cinema
Directed by George Nierenberg
“Exhilarating, touching [and] thoroughly absorbing.”—Brian Siebert, New York Times
In 1979, the art of tap dance was re-energized with the release of George T. Nierenberg’s landmark film, No Maps on My Taps, featuring music by Lionel Hampton and the dance artistry of Bunny Briggs, Chuck Green, and Harold “Sandman” Sims. Nierenberg’s real love for the dancers and their art made this joyous documentary a hit with audiences and critics. The thrilling talent and ebullient charisma of these three dancers shines through on every frame (1979, U.S., DCP, 58 minutes).
Unavailable for years, No Maps on My Taps has now been restored from the original camera negative and is ready to thrill a new generation. Screening with Nierenberg’s restored short film, About Tap (1985, 28 minutes). Total program 86 minutes.
