“Profound and thrilling.”—Nick Allen, RogerEbert.com

In Mexico City, the government operates fewer than 45 emergency ambulances for a population of nine million. This has spawned an underground industry of for-profit ambulances often run by people with little or no training or certification.

An exception in this ethically fraught and cutthroat industry, the Ochoa family struggles to keep their financial needs from jeopardizing the people in their care. When a crackdown by corrupt police pushes the family into greater hardship, they face increasing moral dilemmas even as they continue to provide essential emergency medical services.

Cinematographer, editor, and director, Luke Lorentzen creates an empathetic portrait of a family competing to survive in a business that is dependent on the misfortune of others.

A selection of the Sundance Film Festival. 2019, Mexico, DCP, in Spanish with English subtitles, 81 minutes. Recommended for 16+.
