“Chill-up-the-spine cinema.”—Joe Brown, Washington Post

Produced by a director of educational films on a miniscule budget, this chilling B-movie classic had the ambition to have “the look of a Bergman and the feel of a Cocteau.”  With its sparse locations and unnerving organ score, this macabre masterpiece retains its cult following and was recently restored in 4K.

A young woman from a small Kansas town survives a drag race accident and accepts an offer to become a church organist in Salt Lake City. While en route, she is compelled by a foreboding ghostly figure to visit an abandoned lakeside carnival grounds. 1962, U.S., DCP, 78 minutes. Recommended for 16+.

With Tracy Heightchew, Project Coordinator, Commonwealth Center for Humanities & Society, University of Louisville. A leader in the Louisville film scene, Heightchew headed the Film Liberation Unit while studying humanities at the U of L and was one of the founding members of the Louisville Film Society where she has organized dozens of film screenings at 21C, the Speed Art Museum, and Dreamland.
