“Takes the phrase ‘every frame a painting’ to very literal new levels.” —David Erlich, IndieWire

Loving Vincent is the world’s first fully painted feature film. The film brings the paintings of Vincent van Gogh to life to tell his remarkable story. Every one of the 65,000 frames of the film is an oil-painting, painstaking crafted by 125 professional painters. As remarkable as Van Gogh’s brilliant masterpieces, his passionate and ill-fated life, and mysterious death are equally compelling.

Loving Vincent was first shot as a live action film with actors, and then hand-painted over frame-by-frame in oils. The final effect is an interaction of the performance of the actors (including Saoirse Ronan and Chris O’Dowd) rendered in the style of Van Gogh’s famous portraits, bringing the paintings to life.

One year after Van Gogh’s death, one of his only friends, an Arles postmaster and his son go to extreme lengths to make sure the painter’s final letter is delivered. 2017, U.K/Poland., DCP, 94 minutes. Rated PG-13.
