“They’re breathtaking in their diversity and gorgeous to view.”—Marc Glassman, Classical 96.3
Since 1998, The Animation Show of Shows has selected the best in animated short films from the world’s top animation festivals such as Cannes, Annecy, Zagreb, Ottawa, and Berlin. The styles of animation vary widely, from hand-drawn to stop motion to the latest computer-generated imagery.
Highlights include About a Mother, a new folktale with echoes of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, Disney/Pixar’s Sweet Piper, and Mirror, based on an interview conducted by This American Life host Ira Glass. Their themes range from gay issues and civil rights, to deeply felt personal stories, to the wacky humor that animation does so well.
2016, U.S., Scotland, Belgium, Canada, Latvia, Norway, Korea, Russia, France, Israel, Belgium and England, in English and various languages with English subtitles, 97 minutes. The first 12 pieces are family friendly with the last four more provocative shorts intended exclusively for mature audiences.
