“A vintage pop biopic, baptized in the cleansing fire of release.”—Owen Gleiberman, Variety

Approaching 50, singer-songwriter Nico led a solitary low-key existence in Manchester, far from her 1960s glam days as a Warhol superstar and celebrated vocalist for the cult band The Velvet Underground. By the 1980s, she didn’t care much anymore about her image nor her career, performing due to the encouragement of her new manager Richard who gives Nico some needed drive to hit the road again to tour Europe.

Struggling with her demons and the consequences of a muddled life, she longs to rebuild a relationship with her son, whose custody she lost long ago. A brave and uncompromising musician, Nico’s story is the story of a rebirth: of an artist, of a mother, and of the woman behind the icon. A selection of the Venice Film Festival. 2017, Italy/Belgium, DCP, in English, German, and Czech with English subtitles, 93 minutes. Rated R.
