Presented in a gorgeous new 4K restoration, this satirical look of the absurdity of war still charms over 50 years after its release. During WWI, a Scottish soldier (Alan Bates) is sent on a mission to disarm a bomb in a French country village. The town is now inhabited by former residents of the local psychiatric hospital who have escaped after the villagers have deserted the area. The former inmates declare him their King of Hearts. 1966, France/Italy, 4K DCP restoration, in English, French and German with English subtitles, 102 minutes. Recommended for 13+.
