“Breathtaking to look at.”—Stephanie Merry, Washington Post

The gala is ubiquitous to museum culture, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Met Gala is the Super Bowl of galas. Presided over by Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the event has become the pinnacle of the New York social calendar and the source of enormous support for the museum’s programming and publicity, luring stars like Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence, and Julianne Moore.

This compelling documentary explores the relationship between art, craft, and commerce.   It follows Wintour and Met curator Andrew Bolton over the course of eight months leading to the opening of the Costume Institute’s blockbuster exhibition, “China: Through the Looking Glass” (the most successful exhibition in the history of the museum) which was kicked off by the Met Gala. Bolton is joined by film director Wong Kar-Wei, artistic director for the exhibition and renowned for his striking visual design. Opening night film of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. 2016, U.S., DCP, 91 minutes.
